IGNOU PhD Admission 2025: Notification PDF Out, Eligibility, Seats, How to Apply

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially announced the admission process for its Ph.D. programmes for the July 2025 session. The university offers both full-time and part-time PhD programmes across 30+ disciplines. Interested candidates must apply online within 21 days of the official notification.

IGNOU PhD General Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for IGNOU Ph.D. 2025, candidates must meet the following academic requirements:

1. Master’s Degree:
   • 2-year Master’s after 3-year Bachelor’s, OR
   • 1-year Master’s after 4-year Bachelor’s (as per NEP guidelines), OR
   • M.Phil. degree.
2. Minimum Marks:
   • At least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
   • Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwD/EWS candidates.

For Ph.D. through 4-year UG programs, minimum 75% aggregate is required (70% for reserved categories).

IGNOU PhD Selection Procedure

IGNOU follows a two-tier selection method:

🔹 Category A: UGC-NET Qualified with JRF

• No entrance exam.
• Direct Interview (100% weightage).
• Must fill online application form.

🔹 Category B: UGC-NET Qualified (Without JRF)

• Selection based on:
  • UGC NET Score (70% weightage)
  • Interview (30% weightage)

Interview Components:

• Research Methodology: 40%
• Subject Domain: 40%
• Communication Skills: 20%

Interviews will be conducted at IGNOU HQ, New Delhi.

How to Apply for IGNOU Ph.D. Admission 2025?

Follow these steps to apply online:

Step-by-Step Process:

1. Visit https://ignouadm.samarth.edu.in/phd
2. Click on “New Registration” and fill in basic details.
3. Login using your credentials.
4. Fill in the Ph.D. Application Form with personal, academic, and professional details.
5. Upload:
   • Passport size photo
   • Scanned signature
   • Relevant certificates
6. Pay the application fee of ₹1000 via net banking/credit/debit card.
7. Download and save the filled application form.

Documents Required

• UGC-NET Certificate
• Master’s Degree Certificate & Marksheets
• Category Certificate (if applicable)
• PwD Certificate (if applicable)
• NOC (for employed applicants opting part-time PhD)
• Valid Government Photo ID

Course Work & Duration

• Coursework Duration: First 6 months at IGNOU HQ, New Delhi.
• Attendance: Minimum 80% compulsory.
• Programme Duration:
  • Minimum: 3 years
  • Maximum: 6 years
  • Women & PwD: Extra 2 years relaxation.

No hostel facility is provided; students must arrange their own accommodation in Delhi.
